Ah, yeah, treelines shouldnt be named KSTREE, only Y tree objects.

Then it wont really matter where the pivot point is... but normals have to be set manually, either all straight up, or the top normals up and the bottom ones down or forward, you might get a nice gradient shading.

Some reference here on treewalls: https://assettocorsamods.net/threads/setting-up-trees.162/page-4#post-6718

Thanks for the keen eye and pointing out the issue @Johnr777 +1

Got everting working. As usual, can always do with tweaks, but the treeline objects are now lighting in a way that's consistent visually with the y-trees.

Glad Ive got my head around this before starting on the 3d grass!

… and if anyone needs to know how (as I did) to edit normal orientations manually in 2.80, heres a vid:

This thread might just as well be called "Advanced track modding guide". Reaaaalllly looking forward to drive it !

LE: I still haven't made the switch to 2.8 because I was so comfy in 2.79.. will have to dive soon. Luckly, I don't have too much time for modding in this period :D.

I see it as a way to keep the mind sharp and not forget how to do things,

And with the shader patch, there are "beyond advanced" track modding techniques that we will need to do a guide for in the near future... Can't leave it to the hacks over at the Patch discord to make a mess of things

Ive given myself a self imposed deadline of end of September, barring no big work or life issues :p

For an open source, freely available tool, this is a pretty amazing piece of software. Only been using it since May this year, but Im really impressed so far. Minor quirks, but for the most part, as good as anything, and for the most part, as standard (within reason) as you can buy out there IMO. With Epic offloading a fairly sizable chunk of development funding, its only going to get better. Lots of addons, tuts and support for 2.80, growing daily. Not much to not like really.

    UPDATE
    • Shot some footage last weekend.
    • Lots of reference for trackside objects and details, which I've been working on.
    • Also quite a few trees have grown which are not on the Google capture, so Ill be adding in extra foliage where applicable.
    • Working on a tweaked Sol PP filter which Ill include with the download which makes the scene look more authentic as well.

OK did a side by side, one lap around the track. Still got a lot of detail tweaking to do! But its getting there.

Slightly off topic, but not really ...

A good friend of mine, Hans Fouche was at my offices today.
He's doing consulting work for one of the startups Im involved with.
We had a long chat today with some of my guys at work, and we ended up spending a good couple of hours with him, chatting about race car aerodynamics.

Just for fun, he had dug up some old notes and blueprints from his time at Brabham and Lola, and we poured over original photographs and notes he had taken during this amazing time in F1, the late 80's and early 90's.

I love his Lola Lamborghini LC89, and looking at an actual original 1/3rd scale blueprint of this car on my desk was a really special thing. Wanted to share this, I'm sure there will be some people who would appreciate this historical snippet of coolness.

The car is now a permanent resident of the Lamborghini museum in northern Italy.

Some old school lessons, still totally relevant today.

According to Sergio Rinland (Racecar Engineering, February 2011, page 51):
''For me, that was a big loss, at the time I rated him alongside Adrian Newey, he was brilliant.''

Really proud of my eccentric, brilliant, yet completely down to earth and humble, friend.

Dude, you're like the Bruce Wayne of this forum . Nice encounter (even though I did not know the guy) I'm happy for you.

Being South African and also playing around with tracks. All I can say is Wow, wow and wow, this is very awesome work and I can not compare my conversions of Local tracks (South African) to your work. I feel like a a Grade R pupil compared with a Professional. Do you have any plans of doing other tracks in the future ? We are busy with Aldo Schribante, Midvaal. I also have a track of Killarney, Phakisa, East Londen,Kyalami pre 1994 which I converted myself. I also use Kyalami 1967 which I downloaded from somewhere. But none comes even close to this.

Hope you will make it available for the Public

... so really want to get this out there, even if its in a pre-release version 0.6 kinda thing ... before the SRO 9 hour event ...

    http://kyalamigrandprixcircuit.com/pebble.asp?relid=2322

Got a track day on Tuesday 8th at the track and I plan on photographing as much for final texture work as possible ....

Really nail the details - track surface, kerbs, concrete etc ..
Dont even mind if I miss some sessions on track ... want to spend the time to get some good pics and get those details as close as I can get them.

    haha - no - I wish! :p

I really want get this out before the ACC version, because as you know - the ACC tracks are among the best out there. And this version I feel may be a little overshadowed by it. Its an experienced team, and Im not a team, nor very experienced ! :-D

I did a couple of laps on the build tonight to re familiarize myself - get my head around what needs to be done , and what I need to concentrate on.

Absolutely abysmal driving - but - hey - its to show the track, not the driving :)
(I get stage fright when I hit the record button )
