Point to Point desert track in Chile
Ok cool thanks! I'll let you guys know when it's ready
Ok so I'm back, been doing some work today. I hope tomorrow I will have plenty of time.
Well if you remember, I had posted that I was about 90% done with the physical layer, but yesterday I realized that I had overseen a large area , so probably we're down back to around 60%.
Anyhow, as today I started getting into surfaces ( surfaces.ini ) for the first time, I realized that I could probably mimic to some degree the hand made bumps I've been working on all this time.
So the track could have the 60% hand made + the surface code for the moment, in the meantime I try to gather more time to finish the hand labor.
I'm really inerested in releasing this track, so I have a few questions to all track makers beforehand.
1) What do you consider as an alpha version of a track ( what's the least of features it needs )
2) What state do you consider this track to be in ( from what you can see in previous post images )
3) Would you submit an alpha, or would you rather make it to 1.0.
4) Have you had an experience where you've released an alpha, and when you got to 1.0, not as many people were interested in the track anymore.
What I could work on today was creating a gravel surface for secondary roads, works pretty well. Also modelled some important items missing which you can see in the following screens:
a) The bridge is now modelled from the half up. ( Later version will be the full bridge with the riverbed crossing beneath. )
b) And here the communications tower. This is about the closest one gets to it, but since it can be seen from miles away, it adds to the scenery ( also keeping things real )
So this is it. I want to hear your comments, suggestions, thoughts, etc.
I will see how I proceed after reading your answers. Thanks!
1) I think an Alpha just has to start and you should not fall through the ground. I once played an alpha from the track "Trieste" by Simmtraxx, because I was constantly falling through the floor.
2) Gamma (the track looks so good that you are almost irradiated.)
3) I would recommend you to post it here first (this will probably only download 10-50 people here), wait for feedback, fix the bugs, and if you are happy to publish on Racedepartment and advertise on Youtube and Facebook. Then your track gets the attention it deserves.
4) The interest in your track is not very much dependent on the quality (especially if you write that it will increase over time). I think it makes a lot of difference, whether the interests of the players and your overlap. Someone who is just japan afin will have less interest in your track before. But if someone with a long range, e.g. Random Callsign or "Abgefahren" in Germany advertising for your track will increase the interest in it.
The pictures look great, as always, you perfectionist.
I would be very happy if you send me the track as it is now as PM. Unfortunately I will not be able to test in detail in the near future, because then I'm on vacation.
Is it actually in some dusty sections, like the road here in Bolivia?
@Just Kauser, thanks for your comments.
So this would definitely qualify as a v.1.0 track, since it contains all main elements and works perfect.
So I'm getting this baby ready for release, probably at the end of the day. Need to fix some details, and last minute improvements
So stay tuned!!!
Well the main circuit has 2 types of pavement, one new and the other old.
The old tarmac would be equal to the one at the start of the video.
There are adjacent roads, not yet completed, which look like the one at the end of the video.
So to sum it all up, there will be 3 different kinds of road surfaces.
Once I get to the release, I will add a detailed description of the track, where you can see what's in it, and some facts as well.
I think people's interest depends mainly on the general quality of the mod. Not really influenced by the "here is a demo, and much more will come later". If a mod is good overall - it will be popular.
But generally speaking, I would not recommend to focus only on this. Just do the best you can do and have fun along the way. Regardless of the number of "stars" at the end, if you enjoy this activity - you will have spent a lot of pleasant hours and learned a lot of cool stuff on the way.
Ok thanks there @luchian
Still working on this $hit, hehe.
Been working a whole lot to have everything ready for Monday. The bump layer, and all that code, will need improvement but it will be thanks to your testing.
So what I've done so far:
a) I'm 99% done with the "bump" layer ( 60%hand made + 39%Code )
b) I've revamped the textures for: tarmac, houses, comm tower.
Here are some screens:
a) Houses in one of the populated locations
b) Eye Candy!! It was a rough climb but the Ferrari 458 made it up to the comm tower. So this is another preparation for making the track "night" ready.
So tomorrow as my last working day before release, I will be polishing any extra details, and on Monday morning we should have a great release
Probably there are some minor things that need to be attended but everything is working the way it should. So see you guys tomorrow with my first release of a track!
@luchian , hi there I tried to upload the track this morning, it got to 100%, but then it doesn't show up for me to save the Resource.
Any other good free upload service?
Nevermind, I tried 4shared and its working fine. So where should I paste the download link?
Nevermind again, hehe, I got it working now
SO EVERYONE, TRACK IS RELEASED ( DOWNLOAD SECTION )
Download link: http://assettocorsamods.net/resources/quebrada-de-ocharaza.127/
I assigned the track to this WIP thread. Now they are and will stay connected for any future updates.
In the meantime, also took note of your uploading problem and did some changes in the hosting rules. If you'd have some time, would very much appreciate it if you could try to upload here again. It's not so much about the link (external is fine) but more about testing to see if the problem is fixed.
Should you wish to give this a go, you can simply try it as an "Update" to the present thread/resource. In case it fails again, please report back - it will help to know if more needs to be done to avoid future issues.
PS: as you can imagine is just as frustrating for us to see people having troubles with uploads.. and it really helps when we have feedback. We can then try to address the issues (albeit not always with success - experience shows ).
Ok give me a sec I will reupload
EDIT: ok uploading, its working faster now , last time it took more than an hour
EDIT2: it's happening again, it slowed down a whole lot.
Server is in EU
Also - the external DL link does not work for me - the times is frozen at 20s - does not countdown and DL does not start.
Didn't work for me again, it says in the browser status bar, waiting for assettocorsamods.net and stays there forever after uploading.
I will try using another upload service meanwhile. Have any suggestions?
Ok here's a new link in a different service: https://ufile.io/fa5i1
Hope this one works for you
and here is another one: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/729574/mlt_ocharaza.zip
Thank you for the feedback. We'll dig some more .
Managed to DL, but no time to try it yet.
