If you are on a dead end you can shorten the whole track by a little. I can be your guide and i will test it for you (with a car that i know what time can achieve in order to see if the track is close to the real one) To give you a hint: i took some laps with this mod: https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/peugeot-106-rallye-s2.32274/ in Megara. My time was ~1.25, while it should be ~ 1.20
So I made some rough calculations the track should be 13% shorter. From my personal testing using the mazda mx5 cap,and driving on a shorter version of the map, I managed to drop my times to 1:11 from 1:19. If i shrink all the track by 13% then the width will decrease also. What do you think about the width(current version and possible narrowed one)? Will it be too narrow after 13% decrease?
Yes I can keep the width,it will take a little longer to rebuild, but it will worth it. This is a sloppy rebuild(many objects are misplaced) ,the track is 12% shorter. https://we.tl/t-rkSGXnmgp4 please have a lap around the track (only practice) and tell me what you think about length and width.
I ve download it. Are y sure this is different than your beta version? cause it looks exactly the same (even with same surroundings). Same times with the rallye
so your game still uses the original files, the link I sent by wetranser(https://we.tl/t-rkSGXnmgp4) is different for sure. The shorter version zip is 60,9 mb ,the first beta is 60,8.Give or take I made the track 12% smaller and added ~0.5m of extra width for compensation. Now that I see it it will need a bit more width 1-1.5m and it will be much better.
The megara_trial.zip is 60.8 Mb (right click=>properties) Wait let me check it again, i will report back PS1 I managed a 1.21.9 instead of 1.23 with the rallye. So it may be a little sorter but not much. Anyway thanks! We are looking forward for the updated version! PS2 Here are some laptimes of greek racing cars in the real track (in order to have a clue about laptimes) - Mitshubishi GrN => 1.06.5 - Saxo vts GrN / Peugeot Rallye GrN => 1.11 - 1.12 - Mitshubishi GrA (kyrkos) => 1.03.7 - Escort Cosworth GrA => 1.05 - Golf IV Kit Kar => 1.05.4 - Opel Ascona 200 GrE => 1.07 - Ford Escort mk2 GrE => 1.07.7 - Ford Sierra Cosworth GrE => 1.06.1 - Skoda Fabia (ενιαίο) => 1.13.7 - Formula Saloon (f3) => 0.57.1 - Golf GTI (normal street car) => 1.14.1 - Polo GTI (normal street car) => 1.15.3
Two other small things i 've noticed among the previous ones: 1) You can add this start plate in starting/finishing line and the small building next to it (would be a nice addon) I do not know if it needs hard work or not, so excuse me 2) You can also smooth out the below track turns / kerbs (more important than the 1st): K1 K6 K9 and K10 They have somehow "rough edges" (especially k9 and k6). They look rough (sharp) when you race. You may add some more vertexes in your 3d app to smooth them out (more rounded edges) I ve put blue color to those rough turns to help you out (see photo below) Really appreciate all your work here! It has become my FAVORITE TRACK !! PS1 The track's length seems ok. To be honest the length is almost perfect now!
Thank you for your feedback. So many thinks to add. There will be a second pass to add some details and flare. For now first priority is scale. The new road is ready (less length same width) but I have to rebuild some of the surroundings.I will ask you details about the mentioned turns and curbs later(I suppose the have to be a little taller and more pronounced).
I m here for any help. No need to be done all of these at once. It's understood. These are just my thoughts as i know this track. As i said before length is fine. Too close to reality. I m waiting to have a virtual race (with more than 7 opponents) so i am waiting for the new release!
@Yannis Konstantinidis will you add the extra 1 - 2 meters (in width) for your next release? When should we wait the new version? Any thoughts what it will include?
When the road(extra width) with the surrounding is ready I will release it (very soon) and then I will add extra items. So the next release will be almost the same as beta 0.5 but with proper scale.
Yannis Konstantinidis updated Megara Circuit with a new update entry: UPDATE TO 0.6 Read the rest of this update entry...
@Yannis Konstantinidis thanks for the new update. I like the new version in terms of surroundings + the 11 opponents thing. So , thumbs up !! Tbh i liked the previous version better in terms of length (the one you sent me) as it was closer to reality. Now the track has been shortened somehow i beleive. I ve managed to lower my time (with the rallye) from 1.21.9 (old track) to 1.15.1 (new track), not too realistic. Can you step back to previous version (the one you sent me with the narrower track) with the new surroundings? Have you kept it? Unfortunatelly i erased it
The wetranser link with the previous version is still alive,if you like to use it, https://we.tl/t-rkSGXnmgp4 Please have some laps with other cars(not modded, preferably Kunos Simulationi made) and tell me if you think the times are unrealistic. My laps (not perfect but decent) EVO 8 MR : 1.09 Ford Mustang '15 :1.08 Toyota GT86 : 1.11 Mazda MX5 Cup : 1.08 Toyota Celica ST185 : 1.06
I tried both tracks. Previous version located in wetransfer, and the 0.6 beta. I have certainly better times with all cars i tried (kunos and modded) The truth is that: A) I like the surroundings and the "width" of the new one B) I like the "length" of the previous one Can you combine the 2 ones? If not, i d rather have the old length than the "new" width.. PS I think the K2 - K3 part and the long straight (before K6) are now shortened? It seems that the new track is 3 - 4 sec quicker
I think it's not a good method to build a track like this. I'm not an expert of track building but I'm sure Google data is enough to have the layout more or less accurate in XY coordinates. Z is a big task of course, but now you are talking about shortening or lengthening straights what will only ruin the track for sure. There are so many other factors what have huge impact for lap times.
Scaling a track by comparing lap times is really not the way to go, too many variables can affect laptimes, and a lot of the cars in game are known to not be realistic themselves. Did you grab the google data from RTB?
The fact that I am comparing the times on the track with the actual times, so as to take feedback from people that have driven on the actual track how similar is the experience of driving around the track is, does not mean I base my scaling on times. I took the data from Blender GIS. I used the Google's spline as middle of the road. But the length was way too long 2,4 Km so I scaled the track down until the total length was close to the real dimensions. The current 0.6 beta is a bit shorter, 2.0 km (known issue). The final track will be around 2,1 Km long as the real track is.
