Assetto Corsa EVO Modding?

With the release in Early Access, Kunos literally packed this version 0.1 in a big "container" comprising all the content featured (i.e. the 20 cars and 5 tracks).

However, just the next day people started posting file listings on the web, allegedly with the contents of this container. Furthermore, user Nenkai published a small tool meant to unpack the container and expose the files inside.

Nenkai further claims that "It is supposedly possible to dump the game contents to the root of the game and renaming content.kspkg so that the game doesn't read it, so that the game can run unpacked."

I did not try this yet, mainly because I am not clear on Kunos' position about the practice.

What we do know:
Modding support is planned, but not before the v1.0 release.
Support means that the modding tools will/should be made available.

What we don't know:
We do not know under which conditions will modding be supported.
In previous statements, Marco only hinted that they intend to encourage respectable modders and scratch made work, but it is not yet clear what that entails.

The folder contains no read.me or other information. And the intro screen does not add that much either.

So, what do we do in the meantime, prior to v1.0 release (close to end of 2025)?
  • Experiment (as it happened with AC1) and see what we end-up with?
  • Wait and just enjoy the game as such?
  • Walk the fine line of "if somebody figures it out, we do not intend to stop it" as it was with ACC?

What is your opinion?

Well maybe this is how it will be.Approved modders doing ALT DLC and unapproved modding taking place in the wild.If the tools for modding get released or leaked and we can make what we want , I am OK with them only officially supporting sanctioned modders.(who might even make a dime or two)
As long as they dont try and stop us.

Yes, curious about the approach they'll have. We have always been respectful of Kunos' wishes here, we'll find a way to make it work hopefully :).

I am not hopeful at all. They have been very disingenuous about modding because they knew if they told the truth it would hurt sales. The always online DRM is the giveaway. They have always known what we wanted, they dont care.
If they dont appreciate their loyal customers then I dont care if I ever buy another Kunos product.

The big manufacturers should have no say.Its all backwards IMO.They should be paying to have their cars advertised in the game not the other way around.I have zero interest in appeasing billion dollar companies that dont give a rats patootie about simracers.

I am being gloomy gus so if I am wrong,I will apologise and fork over my money gladly. :nerd:

I only cared about two things really.Modding and better AI...looks like they failed at both so far.

Thank you for the MY FIRST CAR tutorials.I am updating the carTOON Opel GT race (with permission) and I am still a newb at Blender.

From what I’ve seen, they aren’t actively locking the game up. You could technically mod the game now, but every patch will essentially undo the work or set things back.

Today, that would be fair enough in my book.

I can totally understand not putting effort into modding workflow when the core-game is far from final and many things might still change.
