    Hey,

So as Maya does not allow you to use a number first when naming I came up with a solution by adding "A" in front of it so e.g. A1ROAD_TRACK1 and I've found a way to rename in ks editor the only issue is you have to do it 1 by 1 which is incredibly slow. Is there any way at all I can just remove the a in front of them all or am I just going to have to do it one at a time?

    Cheers :)

?? First I’ve heard of anything like that... does Maya give you an error?

This is unfortunate. You could export the FBX as readable (Text,ASCII) and then open it with a text editor and replace the names there. Like: ("A) to (") or to be more secure: ("A1) to ("1) and so on. You just have to make sure that you only replace object names.

In Maya you can't start with a number I've found a slight work around using 3ds max now I can re name the object and remove the a from them all before exporting which is allot faster now.

I’d keep using Max, way more tutorials, a ton of scripts that make track building a breeze! And no silly naming issues

I'll have to go through the same in a while, and found a great script for 3ds max that lets you rename as you like multiple objects, materials or whatever. You can add prefix or suffix or number it's really useful. Here you are

I prefer Maya in general as I do other modeling aswell and there's some awesome tools on there and the workflow is faster for different modeling via marking menus, however I will say i think max takes it on track making. Polyphony Digital use Maya though for Gran Turismo I think it can all be done just need to find the tools.
