yep that will be happening. but I want to also use the brick texture for other brick items, I have the bricks, I just need to get explicit with the shader to do it whilst allowing the texture to be used elsewhere. that's why it came in plate form for simplicity.

I'm using 3 locations for details. primarily it started out at this location here. eventually build these roundabouts up with buildings simulating all the car manufacturers ingame as a spawn point concept. every car maker carpark spawn ground. here we have VW and mercedez at this roundabout locale close to me.

I also want 3 nice statues for the centres of the roundabouts. now that's where photogrammetry could come in usefull. hmmmm.

ive realised,... after driving my track for the last hour that it evokes a sense of something. that sunday drive feel with your gorgeus girlfriend/wife in your special occasion open top car for a perfect country drive.

I wonder is a passenger model possible . ill be modelling Audrey Hepburn if so , she would look hot in a vintage open top car with a nice scarf to shield the less than warm british wind. haha. and a driver model with a quintessential british flat cap and scarf and posh leather driving gloves.

but yeah my track evokes this sense and not lets take a racing car around. and strangely enough the most exciting car in another sense is the mazda mx5 mwhen it comes to staying on the road. these seemingly underpowered non super car cars make more sense on my track than anywhere else ive experienced in any sim. anyway I hope others can feel this soon and understand it really is a viable "thing".

cruises were had. also found a great road for an urban race track. angling these chevrons is crucial. so they don't display to the wrong traffic side. but you never think of them like that out in the real wild or even consider that aspect. but tis crucial to getting such a think to feel right. but yeah they angled so they only visible a certain direction and nearly always defined with some obstruction like a bush or tree or another sign. and they only appear on the long side of any turns. and once they are down you can read the track even more with just 1 real object and after that we found the road utterly race able. this is how we find cool driving grounds in the real world too. just naturally appealing stuff appearing. whilst I hated my B class roads earlier knowing I just needed them there anyway now they realy have taken on a new meaning. fuckin love them !

this is an area you will drive past in the free roam. a re purposed airfield which ive 50% built before this massive Glen Rannoch scenery but it fits in very nicely. it has a 150 mph neutral steering banked ring built into the ground, whilst you would drive past this and only see the closed front gate and restricted admission to the area, this is part 2 of my project. utilizing the whole area as a fictional setting for a more purpose full and detailed driving facility. be it a test centre facility for absolutely anything or some scaa style car park v cones activity or just whatever, much can be done in a re purposed airfield. but its a separate selection. and you wouldn't have access within the free roam but as I say you can still drive past it and that's the point. I need areas in the free roam for signposting and to make an area more realistic. but there has to be a good reason if possible to have a "place" to go to and from.

. and the consideration of pockets of areas I am making for the free roam project i need ideas of how to localise the geography of it to a level you can associate it with in game. I want the places to be meaning full by design. so . basically i need places. but i need a reason to have a place so this it. this will be one area within the free roam arena signposted and detailed etc etc. you just cant get past the front gate . when you do get past the front gate it will be its own small confined arena 1200m x 1200 m

for those that know Scottish culture I shall call this the IRN-BRU ring . (its a comical take on the red bull ring, Irn Bru being a very Scottish fizzy drink.) (Their old slogan used to be "Irn Bru: made in Scotland from Girders"....) ( tastes like fizzy rusted orange girders)

The more I look at the track shots the more I feel I'm in the area between Nelson and the M6.

I'm not sure why, just the roads and terrain feel like there so far.

there are some utterly exciting good parts and some boring parts. you`d think that was a bad thing........ but its utterly realistic. you cant have good without the bad. how we define bad is now more important in my design and workflow theory. LOL ! I use and twist all sorts of logic. but that's how I am able to achieve something this massive totally fictional and yet artistically realistic.

Yep, it's a good ethos.

I'm sure an engineer friend told me of a mantra some car makers used whereby they emphasise the positive elements and ignore the bad ones when it came to more general qualities.
Apparently they did this in contrast to VAG whom at the time ignored their strengths and improved weaknesses, leaving you with good but bland cars.


A great example for tracks is some new NFS stuff.
All areas are like photo shoot wonderful locales, but it does begin to feel unreally good.

well that's good design too. its about the remit for the design and that's what I myself always focus on. rules and where to have rules and where to not have rules. and its that open mindedness to how thing can work instead of how you think they work that can get you a bit further along doing new aspirational things. I wish kunos could / would push the boat out. mostly everything ive done upto now on my track I already pre performed in other environments to test just whats possible whats the limit. upto now ive not breached any limits. last I heard my graphics card can push 90 millions polygons a second or some crazy shit like that. ive pushed over 6 million in ac no problems. to some that might sound crazy but I'm designing around what my system can do. and need not worry its an i7 950 3.07 gig (not OC) from 2009 with a 670 graphics card. so its old. and anyone with a pc later than this is bound to have even better performance so I'm not pushing the boat out at all so to speak with my crazy design remit.

many people have told me my ideas are not possible. the game cant handle it. nope nope nope. thats why I am on my own now to be honestly frank about it. ive always had these ideas and never once failed when it came to results. getting help without the presumption that it wont work, its not possible attitude. your ideas are whack.............getting help has/is/was been impossible, which would have been more efficient . but I'm quite happy with my progress into this 3d realm now.

had a nice play around tonight, at the end I kinda had to stop. my unhealthy heart was overwhelmed with attempting to maintain control at 200 mph in the McLaren P1 alongside the laferrari. we were just testing what full speed was like, not really tried it online before with anyone else. heart was was 200 bpm too it seemed.. never had that experience before in any racing game.

two new object for today. electric tower things(900 verts) commanded by the string object functionality. and our roundabouts here have these little internally lit signs, (176 verts). doubt id be able to pull off that light effect though.

Just out of interest, is there a full AC shader FAQ going through each shader and showing what they do?

I'd have thought you can do a glowing bollard easily if there are any shaders with emission and an emission control map.

well its a translucent light that would require faking. I'm not going the fake lights route anyway. its naff at the end of the day. leaving the ambient values higher and some AO will be ok.

me too, but it suffers from a number of issues, the idea is not quite dead, just need more efficient ways to go about it and well the design isn't efficient enough to be achievable to be honest. not just everything is possible in ac game engine. and I certainly pushed the bar to much from a technical point of view as it needs 10 people to finish it and then it wouldn't have been worth it. also RTB itself screwed it up with a few updates. so my sincere apologies if you don't see this soon. but I still have a passion for it.
