No need to be sorry. There are some people who learn best on their own and don't want help. Then there are people like me who learn best when working as a team. The end result to me is enjoyment that can be shared by all. There's nothing wrong with either approach. I will eventually learn at my pace and I may not learn it all, but want to contribute to the community, not just take. If I can model and never become a @Pixelchaser , @luchian, @LilSKi or @Johnr777 , I will be happy that I took part.

Damn, this hairpin is bizarre :). There's quite some banking there.

There is one of aspect that I will need @Pixelchaser's help with. I can't seem to get the hairpin tight enough without twisting the track.
The other is how to best make the embankment that goes around the track in many places (see photos several posts up). I tried it in RTB using track & cross sections, but it doesn't like it near the track mesh.

tightness is an issue in rtb, it just doesn't want to compute it nicely. reducing panel size will help for that section of track. and fixing it later in blender or max would work.
if there an embankment around the track id suggest extending the track out over that and creating with the cross section instead of trying to join 2 section of track together.

That works everywhere except that bloody hairpin. Then I also have to put in the little rounded curbs near the grass. Been using your ideas from the RTB thread in a practice track and can do some funky things.

The answer for the hairpin is that section should be on its own curve and that curve should be at the inside of the track and not the center. It is similar how I did RIR turn 9. Granted turn 9 is far froma tight turn but it had a separate curve from the rest of the track. It the case of RIR it was the best way to setup the banking but for Mexico it will allow the tight turn.

    Example

    That worked...

EDIT: I cannot get it as tight as your example, but it is good enough after the embankment is put in.

You experienced guys may know what I mean when I say that I am starting to get intimate with the old Mexico track. With all the photos I have and the short video clips, I'm starting to get a feel for what it needs.

RTB, at least at this point, seems to work well to get things in there quickly and see it. But after working with it and Blender, I see no way to finish it in RTB, it's going to take fine tuning in Blender. Fortunately an export function was added that will allow export of parts of the project.

you can do the lilski help hint there too in rtb btw. by shifting all the cross section nodes out to the side thus pretending the main position nodes are an edge, but how that joins to the next piece might be a PITA unless they are all aligned in this edge style thing.

In that example the end bezier points are in aligned mode. You select the point and hit the V key to change the mode.
