Looking for SOUND, looking for SUSPENSION ANIMATIONS help.

I will be aiming on releasing this car before summer, in the state that it will be in at the time. Very likely some bits might be missing, or some compromises made.

At the moment the big question marks are: sound, and suspension animations.

Sound is slightly converted sound from a sound mod for I6 engined, which was done by iRacer.
Suspension animations are up to me, but I don't know if I'll be able to put together motivation for it, and find that time to learn to do it.

Physics are rather awesome, done by Aphidgod aka Jason Coates. Including few very little tweaks by me. One of the fastest guys around in AC baronesbc pretty much matched Caracciolas best laptime from 1937 Monaco GP.

If I will get help with suspension animations and proper sound would be made (one of the best sounding engine ever IMO), then rather decent release could be expected before summer comes. Well it should be decent for those who aren't yet spoiled too much, I expect the mentioned ones will not be reaching it here. Hopefuly only the ones who are up to drive W125, and not a gimme new toy type.

    Few renders from today:

Good interior sound would be more important than suspension animations IMO :D

Any good sound samples or examples?

Not much. Other option could be get some I6 sound maybe, and make it rougher maybe ? Or also sampling a thunder could be an option :D

Do you need any help with cockpit glass shaders and backfire and brake glow effects?

    Better sample thunder :(

I don't agree to idea to steal the sound. Plus I think it is quite off.

I am doing alright with shaders myself. Backfires needs adjustments, and as for brakes glow - those are drum brakes.

Alone ? Nope, but thanks for nice wishes, you are way too nice.

Good luck defending climate change too :D

Oh why good sound modders in AC are almost unexisting ?

Sorry @Just Kauser, but @mantasisg is right. It's nice that you want to help, but please do not post stollen/ripped stuff. It's not so much about what we "risk", but more about showing respect for somebody else's work.

(It would be ok for example if the author of the rF mod would give his permission).

Thank you for respecting the Terms of Use.

Yes, it would be a totally different thing when having permissions. I think any modder would give permission gladly to anyone who seems nice and respectable enough, so it would be certain that: a) people who use it has brains and is willing to inform original creators about intetnions b) the work would not be downgraded.

But anyway. I think that rF sound is bad. Rough - thats good, but just not similar overall.

By the way, interesting fact - they could have identify cracking crankshaft if the engine sound was becoming smooth. Interesting thing.

Fun fact, I hit 1937 hours of AC while working on this car.

2018 05 05 I have stepped few steps forward. At the end the most important thing is physics, making screenshots and renders is the only real reward for modeling to me. In game I only care that it will look just good, that it will sound pretty awesome, and that it will drive really awesome.

    Tires

I was having lots of fun driving this car. Just to point out - I am not physics maker, Jason Coates is. But I am basically working with tires and few other little bits..

So I was having lots of fun and car is handling very logically and believably to me. But one thing felt wrong, especially watching from external track cameras. You could see the car "swimming around" a lot. And if you watch videos you don't see it moving like that, in fact it looks quite stable in videos, rear steps out rather often, of course, but there really wasn't too much sliding.

You could see drivers had lots of steering work to do, constantly inducing some understeer drag (adds some helpful stopping effect), some oversteer, but no drift maniac stuff really going around. Of course good reason for that was that tires wore very quickly, so sliding was not good, another reason might have been that drivers back then weren't yet mastered oversteering techniques, you could see some videos of Bernd Rosemeyer performing some big corner exit powerslides intentionally in practice. The main reason I think that cars were just simply not comfortable to perform great slides.

Having in mind that tires wore quickly, and that in footage they looks relatively stable. Plus, knowing pace of several tracks which are possible to drive in AC (note - Nordschleife used to be longer, without kerbs, with more bumps and jumps) I think it is possible to appoximately set the tires grip not too much off. I have come to idea that those tires actually had quite some grip, but they must have been rather load sensitive preventing. So they must have had quite a lot grip while having significant relative grip drop within given additional load on tire. That makes tires traction less linear, as it might be pretty good, and then go away with too much of acceleration, or too fast turn-in in too small radius curve, de-acceleration not much a problem because brakes doesn't have that much braking force. And as traction is less linear, then the car is less predictable when sliding and takes more effort in to keep a car precise in long lasting slide (unless tire loads are managed rather in rather steady state).

But you don't want to slide very much anyway, because it makes the tire go bad too soon.

Not much can be found about tires of that day. Here are few sentences, a table and illustration:

    http://www.kolumbus.fi/leif.snellman/ritt.htm

Notice how dramatically different tires are between Nords and Avus. Avus tires obviously had harder rubber, much slimmer thread also must had contributed to less tire heat (you will notice that W125 rear tires heats mostly in the straights and Avus was hardcore straights, thats because they get quite some of slip ratio). Nords tires in Avus would have been destroyed in a few laps, and Avus tires in Nordschleife probably would have had no grip and probably also would have been destroyed of too much sliding, while probably not reaching proper temperatures.

So, you are looking for Suspension animation?
    Great. What's wrong with you?
I said I love this project, I have PRO modeler and animator colleagues (because we are doing exactly this for living), and I help you very happily.
Then you said you don't believe me - despite I made anno one of the five donation for your XJ13 you got ever...
Why do you think I'm not gonna help? How do you plan to find the real one who you'll believe?
    I don't understand what's your problem.
I'm still here, I'm not from RaceDepartment, I'm simply one of many AC fans.

You have sent me pretty much same message in RD, and I have answered you in pretty same way, as I will do now.

I said then that I was feeling very bad, and very sad fully charged by negativity of community, my positivity was drained, I gave a lot of myself, and it didn't work. Almost not finding proper communication anymore, would it have been about my mods, about some other mods or some common simulators/cars stuff. I am sorry to leave good folks, but the negativity concentration was agonizing, and that what was wrong. I regret not being able to ignore.

I said that I am sorry not to recognise that you have had donated, I feel bad for it especially as there were so few, for few years of modding multiple mods. Because of that I definitely should have said thanks for donators, I still haven't done it yet.

Yes I was down and said I don't believe. Many times there were false help suggestions so thats something that happens sometimes.

I said sorry to be like that, and I said that you'll be able to find me in ACM, and thats what you did, thats really great. So I wouldn't say that you should be surprised. Thanks for coming here :)

If you are still suggesting help, then I can send you W125 soon with everything, and I'd be very happy if there will be an attempt, or maybe even success.

    That's great, thanks!
I'm sorry, but it was so bad to see you are seeking for help after I gave my word :)
Can't wait to get the files, I really hope we can make a succesful co-operation.
This car is amazing, the biggest challenge to drive in AC, but so much fun! The model became beautiful, with a decent sound it will be my favourite car ever.

I was 90percent expecting that it is going to be you, and you are, I am rather certain that I can trust you. I will have to do a little bit graphical improvements for susp elements, and I'll send it. It is not super amazing looking those mechanical parts, but they are good enough IMO, I suppose it should be possible to improve models later, as dummies/empties are what being animated ? Not actual objects, anyway, I don't really know now.

Car is not that difficult really :) Well, but I always found 250F not hard either. I have tweaked some things since then. For example I gave tires more "default" grip but I also gave them more grip drop within loads (load sensitivity), so it is slightly different, you'll see.
