..aka the car that was supposed to be used for the car tutorial. Initially :).

    Legends_WIP.jpg

Since starting this project I found out that there isn't just one, but two other Legends in progress :ninja:. However, since it'll be a good test bench as well, we decided (@ihlades is giving a go at physics) to push it as far as we can and see what we end-up with. Therefore, this is the working on it thread :).

Started work on the chassis as well. Wheels are quick placeholders. They will have to be redone, but for now, time will be spent on the car :).

Hoping it can be adapted afterwards to mirror Aussie Racing Cars

@garyjpaterson what's your technique for applying "thickness" to model parts ?
(e.g. arched fenders on your green oldie car). Do you model everything manually ? Or apply some modifier ? Or ?). This is especially important in AC since it does not have double sided materials.. :)

Depends how simple the shape is, sometimes its quicker just doing it manually.

For big arches like you described, I would use the Shell modifier in 3ds, this does a really clean job of adding thickness. I then usually go back and clean up/reduce the poly count as generally its used for underside areas which are not seen and also when you bake AO they become just flat black anyway.

Quick screengrab - I actually think I could go way lower poly on the underside still, probably wait and see what the final tricount it before I bother.

    Damn, that looks perfect !
Would you have some screenshot with no smooting modifier applied ? Just tge mesh you've modelled manually ?

It was some time ago that was modelled, and its only the first stages that I use smoothing - once the proportions are nailed down I then collapse it and start working manually, so I can't go back so see what it was like before subdivision.

I'll post something on the discord though that might be relevant...

This is is just now, after smoothing, after optimising etc.

Hahaha, maybe with just a few additional rollcage elements and will give it a try :).

@garyjpaterson : any tips for low-poly weldings modelling ? :) Not happy with how this looks (..which is also almost 1k..)

..and a little more progress for motivation. The angle is more or less the same, the camera lens, definitely not. (top one is reference photo, not my render :D)

No real tips on my end, never done much roll-cages before (though will be soon!). I think what you have already is fine, but just do it lower poly :ROFLMAO:
I wouldn't spend too much time making them perfect unless they are close to the drivers line of sight when driving.

    These are the best pics I could find of welds I did, not great examples really;

Yeah there's at least one finnish guy/team who are quite far with the car, but it's been quiet for some time now. Last time i heard they were waiting some specific motorbike gearbox function to be added to AC, so the car could be driven like it's done for real.

I don't know any Legends car mod that would be out already though. But as fan of the series I welcome every Legends car mods in the making or out there.
