LAST UPDATE : Jan 2018
I’ll try and explain in few steps what is needed in order to export your first track in AC. However, this is not intended to be an extensive tutorial; it’s only a listing of minimum requirements for your first drivable track. And should be simpler than it looks
- According to the size of your project, building a track might take from an hour to a few months . It's up to you to set the limits. I will not say that it might be taking years, cause if it would.. you probably don't need this guide
- It would be a good idea to...
This workaround allows RTB to obtain the terrain texture and elevation data from another source, which ideally provides more detail than Google. This source can be anything in theory. A GeoTiff, a database or file containing data in XYZ format, another mapping service, such as the many regional WMS servers. It can be used for both public and local services. And yes, it can also be a LIDAR based source. An example is provided which retrieves data from a regional public WMS server. Programming skills may be required to access other sources.
Are you a track modder ? Good ! Are you passionate about UK tracks ? Well, even better !
Because the UK's Environment Agency decided to make all the data collected in the last 17 years, available for everyone to use for free. The applications are various, but speaking only for our field of interest, this is huge news for every track modder out there. Getting accurate reference data is one of the most difficult tasks without LS when aiming for a top quality project. Thanks to this decision, it's now possible to access all the 11 terabytes of LIDAR data, and with it most...
04-09-2017: feedback from Pankykapus (3D artist at Kunos)
27-08-2017: added info from @garyjpaterson (ty)
There are already tutorials on car modding for Assetto Corsa out there. However, I feel they don't treat the subject as a whole. Example - the car_pipeline directly coming with Assetto Corsa. It's long and complex, and has a lot of useful information. But it concentrates too much on the graphical side...
Updated 31/1-2017. Comments about experience's with exported mesh added. Tutorial is finished.
This is to keep others from having as bumpy, a ride into this as i have had. Many frustrations.
Finding the right way into LIDAR point clouds, is like navigating a dense jungle.
There are so many purposes and ways to use LIDAR data, that we have acces to a forest full of free and paid for software, plus lots of file formats. Ad to that, all the things you can do to those files.

Hello racers & drifters & cruisers & spectators,
With some considerable delay from initial planned date, here is the first public version of my still work-in-progress parking. As you know the original idea was to offer the possibility to recreate the parking interview from Driver game, but meanwhile the idea evolved (way) beyond that. However, there is still work to do, so in this first release only the Level 1 of the parking is available + the ramp towards Level 2, to get a taste of it
Also worth mentioning that initial plan was to release only the finished version; but...

Embrace for Dream Pack #1 !
Finally, the teasing is over (well, sort-of). The first Dream Pack in Assetto Corsa's timeline, is available for pre-order on steam, with a special (and incredible) price : 9.99 E (full price will be 14.99 E, after launch).
Launch date is also announced, March 11th, a date I'm sure a lot of simracers marked in the calendar already. I can see those sick leave flowing like crazy beginning of next week . Come to think abo.. oh, sorry, of course I wouldn't..
What's included ?...
When we thought that a period of calm will follow after the last update, well.. Kunos is back at it (us?) again. A mysterious message appeared on the FB today:
What does it mean ? When visiting the official website, there is not much info either. Just a counter to know exactly how much longer the wait is. Kunos made sort of a habit to surprise their user base with big announcements (Laser-scanned Nordschleife, Ferrari license, Lamborghini license, Porsche license, etc) and in one of the last interviews...

Anyone knew Hope Racetrack in rFactor 1 ? One of the best looking tracks on that engine, if you ask me; made by the hands of @lemax (Miseluk, anyone ?), who was kind enough to allow us the conversion towards Assetto Corsa. Currently, work is in progress, hope(ing) to get a drivable version by the end of this week. Well, actually the track is...
Because it might be in his job description, Marco Massarutto is actually doing some fine work in teasing us. Now it's dreampack#2's turn.
Started with a nice shot of the SCG 003Cs training on the Nords..
.. followed by a little riddle with this interior shot (most probably from the RUF rgt)..
..aand a surprise non-official shot with these
There's not much announced about the content, but from the little that we know, dreampack#2 will contain:
- The laser-scanned Circuit de Catalunya...
Being an Italian studio, Italians do have some advantage over the rest of the world following Assetto Corsa. One example is this interview in Italian, by Eduardo Ullo for ILVIDEOGIOCO. However, this is 2017 and thanks to online tools like Google Translate, we can get a pretty good idea about what has been discussed, even if some translations artifacts might be in there. The ones I could spot, were corrected. The ones that you spot, please let us know in comments below .
Thanks to @Mr Whippy 's hint, I "stummbled" accros this presentation : Photogrammetry and Star Wars Battlefront. Forget about EA, forget about SW. Look at the process of creation. So inspiring. And so revealing. To see how much work people put into creating state-of-the-art content. And also to get an idea about the tools we have acces to nowdays. I strongly suggest you to watch the presentation. It gives an overwiew on the approach, and it's filled with small very usefull...
As the server is on 24/7, why not put it to good use ?
Club type races, not a part of the official season's calendar (if one in progress). Every week, 2 races will be held, with the same combo, this way everybody can have a shot of making it to the race.
Club races mean no specific registration is required. You can however let others know you plan to participate - more drivers attract even more drivers .
UPDATE: You can reserve a car for a specific event. Your spot will be guaranteed and...
For the record, this should be noted here. Or maybe you've missed it. Ok, maybe not . Anyhoo, the AC 1.2 update hit us on July 31st and it was quite a substantial one, with important evolutions in all areas. The most important ones I'd say - the FFB and the AI. One step ahead for the FFB with a cleaner signal. This might require re-adapting to the cars and driving but once done, you don't want to go back. And what better opportunity to train if not with the improved AI. The "smarter" AI will offer some serious challenge depending on the chosen combo. It will change lines, it...
Here I come with my 1st track called Boujma, which I've ported from Racer. As a 3D Pro Modeler & having released the work on RD, you will now enjoy "Top Quality" race tracks for AC.
What this track includes :
- mega shaders used
- 10 pits
- 10 AI
- 4 timelines
- 10 cameras
- AI line => minimap
- preview map
- 7 audio sources
- sand / grass / gravel / road surfaces
- lots of highly optimized collidable objects + cones wrapped inside a fully transparent cube
- waving flags
- huge amount of rocks / trees with...
..and the winner is.. but before that, let's make a small summary of this thing: So, this year, Ferrari is celebrating its 70th Anniversary. Being on a good mood, or better yet Marco being a smooth talker , Kunos has the chance to develop and release a DLC on this special occasion. Dedicated to the horsy loving brand. This DLC will include 7 cars. Out of these, 6 were already decided by Kunos before hand. For the 7th, we (you) got to vote. After around 30000 votes (so really, a significant chunk of the player base) the results are.. unexpected .
For the record (as we aim keeping track of all AC's updates) we'll just post this here .
The 1.3 update brought a lot of improvements, most of them pre-announced in the live sessions Stefano used to make. One of my favorites must be the 64bit build, pushing away all those memory limitation situations. You can choose your favorite ones, from the complete changelogs bellow. More so since there were no less than 7 micro-updates since the 1.3 original launch, bringing us a bonus Audi R8 V10 car in the process.
1.3 - 64bit build - Car...
Mid-week release for Porsche Pack 3, so time might be scarce for trying it out. However little time you have though, it worth's giving the new toys a spin. Porsche Pack Volume 3 follows the first two DLC packs dedicated to the Porsche brand, introducing a selection of seven different vehicles. The pack places an emphasis on modern-day Porsche racing cars, including the entire 991 GT3 racing line and the latest 2016 Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid, while also featuring two of the German brand’s most iconic racing cars, the 908 Lang-Heck and 917 K.
Volume 3 also brings players one of...
