I imagine the interiors in those are pretty sparse/non-existant, so that chassis will look stunning all AO'd up from the inside.
Me neither, it almost made me quit modding completely! Once you do finally get your head around the process its super easy and really brings drastic improvements to the perceived quality!
So.. the sunny days are kind-of over, I would therefore like to get back on some old projects . However, as stated previously, I am struggling with organic/curvy surfaces, as in a car. I consider you one of the best car modders @garyjpaterson , so might I dare asking for some pointers on where to go next, please ? I simply do not "see" where/what to cut next to make it more curvy. Maybe just some quick doodle on the image on where to add next cuts ? Or some other idea ? (no time pressure, as you can see there is no hurry here.. ). TY.
Ever used the 'Bevel" tool on the car? Select an edge (or a whole lot of them) and press Ctrl-B and drag the mouse and use the mouse wheel to choose bevelling resolution This shape was made almost exclusively by attacking a flattened cube with that tool.
Personally I'd lose a few of those vertical loops and use a subdivide modifier. Basically anything other then 100% mechanical bits with straight lines etc would benefit from some subdivision, its a really nice way of maintaining a consistent mesh flow and smooth transitions (where needed of course, im sure you can use smoothing groups to split it for hard edges). Of course it does always need some manual cleanup later, but IMO i much prefer removing unnecessary edges than manually adding/beveling each loop (which is how I did my first models I suppose). I like to keep things nice and loose, all using subdivision modifiers till I'm fully happy with the overall shape - then I commit (collapse) and start adding/refining details manually, using my already smooth and clean mesh as a solid base.
That project is dead. Or lets say I don't think anything ever comes out of it. I did make the model and lots of skins exist for it too. Model is 99% ready. Just needs some shader work and higher density wheels. But probably won't ever be released. Here's one screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/waSyrl5.png Our car was the ford coupe '34 iirc. I don't know about you @luchian but to me it doesn't feel like a good idea to make the same model twice. If ours comes out some day and yours come out some day then we will have two same car models. Legends is a series with multiple car bodies so it might be more fun for both if you made a different body style? I know it is annoying and maybe you really want to make this specific model but if possible a different body style is an option?
Hi @pyge , Thanks for your reply. Indeed it's the same model, the '34 Coupe. However, from what I understand.. we only run the risk of having 2 mods released, but in fact we have none, right ? What about this as mid solution : would you be interested to share your model so that @ihlades could (maybe - need to ask him) give it a shot with physics and see if we can release something decent ? If it turns out ok, I can then switch focus to some other body (not that I was completely focused anyway ).
Thanks @pyge for the news. The model is beautiful, would be a shame if it would go waste. Hopefully you can find a solution with luchian. I would love to drive and skin this car.
I don't want to sound rude but I'd prefer you to be much closer into finishing the car before we share anything . You don't need my model to test any physics. If you get the car closer to being finished I'm happy to give you some stuff like my driver rig and/or animation for example.
whats that car lacking still? Visually it looks fine to release. Physics can't be "too difficult", no fancy aero, no electronic controllers, simple suspension, tire data from Ford Excort RS1600 will probably fit well.
Nothing rude about it. I was just led to believe that you are blocked on your side, and was offering a mid solution to get something out . In this case, business will continue as usual, until one side "moves" decisively. Me/us or you guys . I do not mind either way, I just want to drive this thing. Your model looks very nice, btw. Cheers.
