    Hi there,

    I've been working on this for a while now. Although it is still very-very far from being finished (I'd rather say I barely began working on it), I thought it would worth presenting.

    As the thread title tells, the subject of the project is the island of Mackinac, a real island located in the USA on Lake Huron. One of the most interesting things about the island - besides of its historic significance, and numerous cultural events - is that motorized vehicles have been prohibited on the island since 1898.

    This aroused my interest, and after checking the size of the island, I decided to "re-enable" traffic on it - digitally at least. :)

    Since the island has around 100km of "driveable" roads (including gravel and dirt roads), and has a total area of ~11km2, it is somewhat manageable.

    What is done-ish:
    - Tarmac roads, and intersections connecting them;
    - gravel roads;
    - dirt roads with some intersections;
    - some rare places with muddy surface;
    - a full sized airport with a runway to dragrace on..;)
    - all these with temp materials and textures;
    - proper surface settings for each type of road.

    - dummy terrain based on google data (satellite + height),
    - dummy buildings based on OSM building data (adjusted to satellite imagery)

    What needs to be done:
    - some more intersections;
    - land patches between roads;
    - important landmarks, buildings, places;
    - golf courses;
    - frequently appearing, typical objects like fire hydrants, fences, benches, lamps, bins, street signs, etc., all with properly set LODs to boost performance;
    - repeatable "average" houses, tree patches to form forests, and so on...;
    - hidden areas to be discovered;
    - basically everything...

    All I can guarantee, that I can't guarantee anything. This is a painfully slow process for a single developer besides a daily job, and we're also expecting a baby soon to come, so I'll expect to slow down even more for a while. But I like this project, and will carry on as much as I can! ;)

    If there will be a need, and I'll reach a point where it will be considered as "not that much lame", I'd be glad to share a pre-alpha test version, so you could also help with polishing it.

    And since this got too long already, here's a video in the end (sorry for the poor quality, recorded with Win's game bar):

    Cheers,
    m
