MSR Houston, about 40 miles south of Houston, Texas in a flat "coastal plains" area. Compared to Kyalami, it's a pretty insignificant track, mostly simple in design (has a "hump" and two minimal-camber turns), and quite "rough" around the edges for a race track. Because of it's "simplicity" and I've been to it, it's a great candidate for a first track mod project and I'm part of a team that has participated in a few 24-hour endurance races at this track. A few "amateur" members could still use more "track time," evaluation, and instruction to improve their lap times. These are captures from early in the development. It has progressed some since these images, but unfortunately, it's a low priority project. I was hoping to recreate it's "rough" look to really make the virtual version a lot like the actual track. Maybe seeing your work will inspire me to get back to this and finish it for Assetto Corsa. I was originally creating a version for GTR2, but I'll probably skip that.
This one meant a lot to me. Current DTM World Champion Gary Paffett. To have been a small part of the preparation for him and the rest of the Strakka Team for the race is something I'm really proud of.
I haven't been to that track, but it definitely looks more interesting, and maybe worthy of an AC track mod. I think I have it for GTR2, or maybe it's another track somewhere in north Texas. MSR Houston is only 40 minutes away from here, and they often host track days and other events. I have an old rFactor version of it that's okay, but AC really needs an updated, quality version, and my team members could use it so they can practice running laps.
Amazing project, fascinating thread. I went to school in Johannesburg in the early 1980s and have had a soft spot for Kyalami ever since. Can't wait to drive this definitive version in VR. Keep up the fantastic work, @Prototype.
Is really great to have this track in AC first since it's gonna be available on ACC in the future and also on Automobilista 2.
Here's a link to some of Texas' tracks. https://www.trackjunkies.org/topic/7000-custom-texas-tracks-sim-racing-in-2019/ The AC ones aren't the greatest quality, but I've yet to find another TWS for AC.
Great teaser for today's release. @Prototype I noticed one small mesh glitch which I'm sure you already fixed. See picture blow:
Ha ha yes thanks @Gunnar333 Its fixed! As for the single sided barrier mesh in the first image - thats not a cam angle anyone is going to see - thats Chris flying his camera around - so Im not going to bother with that one I dont think ... The build Chris used was from a week ago. Lots of fixes and polish added since. I appreciate the help - if you see anything else, lmk. Another cringe moment for me was seeing a blue apex cone intersecting a kerb. But, its fixed!
So excited for this release i cant wait Definitely going to use this circuit in my tcr league in a couple of weeks
Do we have to apply for the beta or is it released on Race Department. I know you live in South Africa, and its the 21st November and i havent seen anything yet on RD, so just wondering if we had to apply for the beta track???
