    Hi.

    I can't seem to get the correct scale out of lidar captured data into blender once its converted to mesh with cloud compare and have no clue where I am doing step wrong.

    So let me explain in screenshots.

    Here is the data source

    Downloaded the las file

    Click yes to all on cloud compare import

    Intensity, cut out the mesh I want, and convert to xy plane...

    save it as stl file with binary as option

    import stl file with this

    and than this happens

    google maps distance 140.02 m

    the imported stl file distance 439.05 meters

    Somewhere I seem to be missing crucial step.

    That seems to be a unit mistake - looks like it imported with values of 'feet' but Blender read it as meters. Looks like that distance is roughly 440 feet, which converts to ~135 meters.

    OMG you genius!

    of course.

    the data from us national map is in imperial.

    changing the scale to 0.3048 in blender to make it meters works!

    not sure if this can be done in cloud compare to make sure accuracy is even better.
