It's update day. Steam servers will be hard at work once more, because Kunos released version 0.5 of their Assetto Corsa Competizione title. As usual, we have new content: the New Emil Frey Jaguar G3 and the Zolder circuit, in its laserscanned beauty. Aside from this, I would say that the most notable feature are the new ECU maps for all cars.

    Zolder Circuit

In their own words, Zolder Circuit is 4 kilometres of asphalt, 10 curves of which 3 chicanes, a daring Sacramentsheuvel and 2 long straights. Located in the middle of the Limburg greenery, this highly technical track has always created a challenge for man and machine. This going back to its early beginnings (in the meantime more than 50 years ago), passing over the Formula 1 years of the'70s and '80s, right through to the present day. Unfortunately the circuit is also know for a less happier event, the death of the popular Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve, killed during qualifying at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. In the beginning of 2006, the track underwent safety adaptations and nowadays the popular track looks like this:

Emil Frey Jaguar G3 - Who can say no to a V8 ?!
    jag_g3_acc.jpg

Emil Frey Racing is a Swiss racing team and racecar constructor. The team is named after the Emil Frey Gruppe a Swiss car dealership for Jaguar, Lexus among other marques. Emil Frey Racing was founded in 2011 competing in the Blancpain GT Series among other series.

The team started development of the Jaguar racing car in 2011. While Lorenz Frey and Fredy Barth built the racing team, the car was built by Bemani Motorenbau AG. The Swiss team launched a Jaguar XKR based racecar built to GT3 specifications in 2012. However, as GT3 regulations allow little in season development the car was homologated into the RACB G3 class. The development was headed by Emil Frey's grandson, Lorenz and Fredy Barth. For 2014 the Jaguar was fitted with a new Ilmor 5.0L V8 engine to compete the full 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series.

    Specs:
    Engine
    Front-mounted Jaguar V8
Race power approx: 500 bhp at 7500 rpm
    Displacement : 5000 ccm

    Transmission
Rear wheel drive, Xtrac six-speed sequential transaxle gearbox, steering wheel mounted paddle operation

    Bodywork
    Material of Chassis: Aluminium
    Weight: 1200 kg.

Until next month, enjoy the racing !

    Code:
    v0.5.0 Changelog
    - New Emil Frey Jaguar G3 car.
    - New laserscanned Circuit Zolder racetrack.
    - New special events with online leaderboards.
    - Fixed disappearing main menu UI in VR.
    - Texture memory optimizations.
    - Fixed a chase cam rotation bug.
    - Fixed a TV camera bug.
    - Car light improvements in TV camera views.
    - New inertia calculation method and new more accurate inertia value (advice for setups, use softer fast damper to let the body move and settle, instead of having the car and wheels jumping)
    - New motion ratio calculation for dampers resulting in more accurate values dedicated for each car.
    - New ABS feature. ABS now never lets higher than 70% difference between left and right brake pressure. Improves behaviour on extreme torque vectoring, like braking and going through a water puddle with one side of the car, but can result in inner wheel locking if driver insists braking hard while turning into a turn. Might need more rear brake bias on certain cars.
    - Improved ABS logic, resulting in better turn-in under braking, on certain cars (most notably modern cars such as the Huracán, F488, BMW M6).
    - Improved TC off on gear-change functionality. TC is instantly switched off and on again when a gearchange occurs, in order to protect the engine and drivetrain from heavy vibrations, especially on situations where kerbs and the engine limiter are involved (part of real cars' TC logic too, occasionally they will even not allow the gearchange). Now the TC off timing is car-dedicated and optimised. Some cars might handle a gear change better than others.
    - Improved tyre thermal model, especially wet tyres.
    - Improved tyre grip when tyres are overheated, such as after a spin.
    - More tyre wear when tyres are overheated, no free meal.
    - Corrected bumpstop position and functionality of the Ferrari 488 GT3.
    - New ECU maps for all cars. ECU maps now influence power, fuel consumption and throttle maps. Usually the lower number is the more powerful and has the most power consumption. After the initial 3-4 values, it switches to wet ECUmaps with similar power and fuel consumption but different throttle maps. Please check the official forum for all the released cars' ECU map characteristics.
    - New launch control for all cars. Now with manual clutch, just engage 1st gear, put the clutch and accelerator to the floor and the engine will stabilize around 5000rpm. Release the clutch gradually while keeping the accelerator fully open to avoid stalling.
    - Audio engine optimizations
    - Fixed potential wrong volumes switching cameras
    - Fixed time multiplier for the end race replay
    - Fixed wrong trackmap cars position during replay
    - Intro sequence updated
PS: one more, too good not to post

Either this Jaguar is just awesome, or I'm getting better, or Kunos is improving the physics ... :p
    Best car so far IMO.
And the props turn on the wind turbines ! Finally!

Maybe they are getting used to their product :D. I had some stuff to do earlier and now the missus is asleep so cannot trash the pedals/wheel. Will have to wait tomorrow or the weekend to test it :).

Is it just me or have you posted a pic of a random AC mod version of the Jag? Doesn't look the same as the ACC one to me :D

But yeah I'ts becoming more enjoyable for me to drive in VR. Not sure how I'll fair with AI as the performance will take a dive on my hardware but for now its seems to be slowly coming together. Enjoying the difference in setups, and the cars all feel significantly different - ran the Jag then the Ferrari back to back - amazing how much more keen the Ferrari was to change direction, much simpler to thread through those brutal chicane kerbs.
