Whoaa ! You DID worked already a little bit on it !
Love the teasing presentation :D. Best of luck to you !

PS: if you need reference video/photo starting from September I should drive there about 1/month.

Cheers, yup, I've been messing around for a few days trying to find optimal workflow, main concern is getting all this detail into the map without killing the FPS, I guess I won't know until I get to it.

There are more lamposts than trees so probably will need to be on Y planes or flat planes, I'll have a better idea once a substantial part of the meshes are done.

There's more detail in half the Champs Elysees alone than in most tracks

re: reference, most definitely, there are a few areas I could do with some good photo's taken for reference purposes, NOT "tourist" style ;), definitely no photo bombing :p

Louvre fountains for example, intricate models that will need good detailed textures, so will require photo's from an angle suitable for texturing, orthographic as possible, good even lighting, no dof or focus etc.

suggest capturing 1m x 1m of the highest res you can of each surface directly down, but it needs to be overcast for best results. if you can use HDR or bracketing function, you can rebalance them later too.

drones are certainly the future for track makers. little lidar kit held underneath and there nothing we wont have.

Spent a few hours on the Concorde today, starting to come together, too early for screenies really but the photo mode is pretty neat.

Sh*t, you make this project look and feel so.. tangible ! Those last 2 screens convey a great atmosphere. Don't know if it's solely your style, or the props, or the lightning, but knowing what you aim for and looking at these, I AM THERE ! I LOVE IT !

Getting some nice images from GE historical, I'm going for this layout in the Place du Carrousel , it's closer to the film and as far as I can tell it was like this in 1976...nice drifting location too :D

Thought I'd drop a screenie in, just started work on the champs treelines, the aim of today it to get enough variation to break up that repetitive look, more so as the treeline closest to the road is pruned geometrically...not sure if Y meshes will do the job.
There's only so much you can do with rotation and scale if your only working with a few tree variations, I'm going to try and split the trunks from the tops to increase the random factor.

How does the game handle X meshes ?

yeah its more "hedge" like in that shot... a general PITA.

I wouldn't attempt to do them like that, ignore that shot, any hedge line surface affect will come anyway with trees viewed at those angles. just not flat like that. of course you can pull it off. but at what cost ?

    Nah, it's a challenge. :D

I'll try a few things, after I finish the pavements, I gave up after 500m to play with the trees.

Thing is in the film the trees aren't pruned....hmmmm, decisions, decisions, If I can't get it to work I can always fall back on that.

This is the champs in 76, maybe the gardener was on his hols:
