    Y just works best usually. Be careful when you have two objects sharing the same space even though they are rotated. You may get Z fighting in the center. If you want a better tree close to the track then you can do a 3D tree like kunos does in some cases.

    its about the design on them, when you create those 6 armed trees. and you use the same texture on each arm area, its going to look like the most un natural tree with symmetrical tree arms everywhere.

    it sucks majorly ! mostly I just want to make desert tracks that don't have trees, or that need grass. and its not laziness ! :lol:

    I have another problem...
    The trees I made look... flat (?). Kinda like they are made of cardboard. Is there anything I can do to make them look like on other maps (with nice, deep lighting)?

    u need to remove all the lighting effects. so remove specular values and also all "normals" need to point up, and then use kstree shader.

    Also you need to fix your UV map. It is mirroring the image which you don't want.

    I set specular to "0" (or should I make it "1"? I don't know if remove means 1 or 0). They look better now, but must have messed up something else, beacuse they still aren't looking as good, as they should be.

    I have read the post and followed the instructions. I haven't grouped the trees yet, but can this be the cause (does grouping have anything to do with lighting)? Also, can mirroring image be the cause of the "cardboard" look problem? Or is it separate thing and has nothing to do with it?

    Specular should be 0. Ambient .4 and Diffuse .25 is a good starting point.

    Tree naming has EVERYTHING to do with the shading. read the post again.

    UV mirroring is fixed by setting the UV correctly and nothing else. If you still can't figure it out I'm sorry but the info is all there in front of you.

    I mean the trees are not grouped, but named correctly (*number*KSTREE*number* - this is correct... right?).
    But if you are saying so, I'll group them now.

    UV mapping is not a problem for Me now, I just want to start with harder issues, like lighting, and then proceed to polishing the look by fixing the mapping.

    I think it is ok now

    I have just loaded the map after spending some time editing it in blender, and I set ambient, diffuse and specular to values you have recommended. The result is good and it's pretty much what I was aiming for.

    Hey

    I decided to make a new track from the scratch. I created a simple and slightly better layout than previously. Files are borrowed from the first one. I have only changed the preview and modifyed the .json file (replaced the original track name with new one). Also, this time I have added Start, Pit and Time entities.

    However when the main menu is loading up a notification pops up saying there's an error with the track and to look it up in the log (where's the log?). Also, I can't see the track in the selection menu.

    What should I do?

    Double check json file (maybe some comma, or stuff like this). If the track is not showing in the menu, it's not even linked to the kn5 file. It doesn't get that far :).

    You're right, I missed two marks while editing the file.

    Now I can see the track in the menu. After clicking the "start engine" button loading screen appears. Cars and tracks are beginning to load (the text in the bottom says so), but suddenly I'm being kicked back to track selection. No notification, or anything. Just stops the loading and moves me to the menu.

    Yes, even if it would've been more practical to attach the file than to post it :).

    Anyhow, it seems there is a problem with the object/mesh 1pit1. What is this ? Pit surface ?
    If yes, have you defined the surface pit in the surfaces.ini ?
